KEYNOTE SPEAKER

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Kat Steele will be the evening's keynote speaker For this year's Pitt BioE Day! She will be giving a talk about her path to a successful academic career as a young professional in the bioengineering/biomedical engineerng research field.

 

Kat Steele is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. Her research focuses on integrating dynamic simulation, motion analysis, medical imaging, and device design to improve quality of life for individuals with neurologic disorders. She also co-directs AccessEngineering, an NSF-supported program to encourage individuals with disabilities to pursue careers in engineering and integrate topics on universal design and accessibility into the engineering curriculum. She earned her BS in Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and MS and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. To integrate engineering and medicine, she has worked in multiple hospitals including the Denver Children’s Hospital, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. She has been awarded an NIH K12 Career Development Award in Rehabilitation Engineering and an NSF CAREER Early Faculty Development Award. undergraduate and Graduate poster session

Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to participate in our poster session from 2:30 - 3:45.  Judges for the poster session will comprise of visiting company representatives and professors.  Awards for the top posters in the undergraduate and graduate category will be given at the end of BioE Day.  To participate, please submit your abstract under the Registration link.

 
 


Spotlight Presentations

As a new addition to BioE Day, students are invited to participate in an oral research presentation.  Judges for the spotlight presentations will comprise of visiting company representatives and professors.  Awards for the top presentations will be presented at the end of BioE Day.  To participate, please submit your abstract under the Registration link.



 
 

Industry Networking Luncheon

Sponsored By Respironics

As a new addition to BioE Day, students are invited to participate in our Industry Networking Luncheon, in which students will have the opportunity to meet industry representatives from companies and laboratories such as Respironics, Human Engineering Research Laboratory, ALung, and others.  A fee is due upon registration, but waived with the submission of an abstract for the poster session and/or spotlight presentations.
